Liverpool target Yan Diomande has admitted his childhood love for Paris Saint-Germain, casting doubt on a potential move to Anfield. The RB Leipzig winger, 19, is expected to leave the German club this summer after a breakout season.
Diomande scored 13 goals for Leipzig last term and has been identified by Liverpool as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, who has left the club. However, the Ivorian's comments suggest PSG hold an advantage in the race for his signature.
“Paris Saint-Germain is a team I've loved since I was little. My father is a Paris Saint-Germain supporter; it's a team I admire as a football fan,” Diomande told Telefoot. “It would be a pleasure for me to come and play here with one of the biggest clubs.”
Despite his preference, Diomande insisted his immediate focus is on the World Cup with Ivory Coast. “I don't think I'm thinking about the future or anything else. I'm focused on the World Cup,” he said. “After that, what will happen is that the clubs will work things out amongst themselves.”
Liverpool are undergoing a rebuild under incoming boss Andoni Iraola, with Salah and Luis Diaz already departed. PSG, meanwhile, boast a settled attack but remain interested in adding Diomande to their squad.
