Arsenal defender Ben White would reportedly welcome a move to Liverpool if the opportunity arose, according to former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy. The 27-year-old has found himself on the fringes at the Emirates, starting only four Premier League matches this season.
White, who joined Arsenal from Brighton for £50 million, has been used primarily as a right-back but faces stiff competition from Jurrien Timber. A serious knee injury has also hampered his involvement, casting doubt on his long-term future at the club.
Murphy told BoyleSports: 'Ben White to Liverpool would make sense but Arsenal might not want to sell to a rival. It would depend on how adamant the player is that he wants to go. If Ben White was an option, I think that would be a good option for Liverpool.'
The England international's versatility—capable of playing both centre-back and right-back—could appeal to Liverpool, who are assessing defensive options with Ibrahima Konate's contract winding down. Murphy added: 'I think he’s a really good footballer, he’s a big lad. Yes, he’s had a couple of injury problems recently, but he’s an experienced guy.'
Arsenal's summer recruitment, including defenders Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera, has intensified competition. Whether the Gunners would sanction a sale to a direct rival remains to be seen, but White may push for a move to reignite his club and international career.
