Liverpool manager Arne Slot has indicated the club will pursue quality signings this summer amid reports linking the Premier League champions with a £150m move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. The Sweden international is a long-standing target for Liverpool, who have funds available following the £65.5m sale of Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich.
Isak, 25, is believed to be keen on a move to Anfield and has been training separately at Real Sociedad’s Zubieta base after missing Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia. However, Newcastle are demanding £150m for the forward, who has three years remaining on his contract. Liverpool are reportedly unwilling to exceed £120m, which would still break the British transfer record.
“I always say, another thing about Liverpool is that if we see a chance in the market we never hesitate to bring someone in,” Slot said after Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Japan. “It’s about quality and we have already made some very good signings.”
Liverpool have already spent close to £300m this summer, bringing in Florian Wirtz for a club-record £100m, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitiké, and Giorgi Mamardashvili. The club have also raised over £190m from player sales since Richard Hughes became sporting director in June 2024.
