Former England footballer Karen Carney is swapping the pitch for the dance floor as she prepares to compete in the 2024 series of Strictly Come Dancing. The 38-year-old, who earned 144 caps for the Lionesses, will be aiming for the glitterball trophy in Saturday's final.
Carney, who played for Arsenal and Chelsea, admits she didn't make much money during her playing days but insists she harbours no bitterness. In a 2019 interview with The Times, she said: 'I haven't made a lot of money but I'm equally comfortable. I have food, clothes on my back and my family. I'll never be bitter. I don't need a Bentley. I don't need a Rolex.'
Despite modest earnings, Carney enjoyed a successful career, winning three league titles at Arsenal and numerous domestic cups. She also helped England finish third at the 2015 World Cup and reach the final of the 2009 European Championship.
Since retiring, Carney has found financial success in broadcasting, working with TNT Sports and ITV to cover the Premier League, Champions League, and international tournaments. She now brings her competitive spirit to Strictly, where she hopes to impress viewers and judges alike.
