Former Manchester United and England attacker Jesse Lingard is in advanced talks with Brazilian club Corinthians over a one-year deal, according to reports. The 33-year-old free agent, who left FC Seoul in December, had previously been linked with a move to Remo, but Corinthians have now emerged as the frontrunners for his signature.
ESPN Brazil reports that Lingard and Corinthians are close to finalising an agreement, with 'financial issues' resolved and the club working on the remaining details. If the move goes through, Lingard would line up alongside former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay, who joined Corinthians earlier this year.
Lingard and Depay were teammates at Manchester United during the 2015-16 season, before Depay was sold to Lyon in January 2017. Lingard, a product of the United academy, made 385 appearances for the club, scoring 77 goals. He has also played for West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, and FC Seoul.
Earlier this year, Lingard was linked with a return to the Premier League and Serie A, but a move to Brazil now seems likely. The winger previously explained that a desire to 'feel loved' influenced his decision to join FC Seoul, where he scored 10 goals in 34 games in his final K League season.
