Lineker Slams 'Stupid' Rule After Richarlison Yellow Card in Tottenham vs Man Utd

Gary Lineker has called for a Premier League rule change after Richarlison was booked for removing his shirt in celebration during Tottenham's dramatic draw with Manchester United. The Brazilian's 88th-minute goal appeared to secure victory, but Matthijs de Ligt equalised deep into stoppage time.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, the former England striker described the yellow card rule as 'stupid'. He said: 'Richarlison thought he'd won the game for Tottenham, didn't he, ripping off his shirt, and then obviously they get extra time for that, and then they're scoring that extra time.'

Lineker acknowledged the rule is well-known but argued it needs updating. 'I think it's a stupid law to get a yellow card,' he added. 'I know you can get overexcited, but you can get overexcited by doing something else other than rip your bloody shirt off.'

Co-host Micah Richards defended the striker's actions, saying: 'I can't even grumble at the fact that he's taking off his shirt, because he's playing it in real life.'

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank expressed disappointment at the late equaliser but praised his team's second-half performance. 'We stayed in the game, did the right thing, keep pushing,' he said. 'How the boys kept fighting was hugely impressive.'
