Lewis Hall has said Newcastle United's start to the season has been "really positive" apart from the "slip-up at Leeds", as he joined up with Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the autumn UEFA Nations League series.
Hall ended last season on a low after losing his place under Eddie Howe, but within weeks of Matthias Jaissle replacing the former Bournemouth manager, he signed a new deal. He has been a key figure under the German head coach and scored what proved to be the winner against Hull City.
Positive start under Jaissle
Speaking to reporters just before linking up with England for the game against Spain, Hall said: "Really positive. Apart from the slip-up at Leeds we can be proud. We have started better than people would have expected. The mentality in the dressing room is really good."
Newcastle signed off before the international break with a slender victory against Hull, with Hall happy with his own form and the club's position in the top 10. However, he admitted there was still room for improvement.
Room for improvement
He said: "It was a mixture of our own doing and a good finish from their guy. When the score is 2-1 you know where the game is going to go - it's just about the mentality. I liked to get involved in attacking play and I'm happy to have got a goal. It's always a nice feeling scoring, but doing it at home is a different feeling. Buzzing with that and all the family are here, which makes it special. We let them get back into the game, which we need to look at."
