Newcastle United full-back Lewis Hall is reportedly keen to complete a transfer to Manchester United this summer, according to The i Paper. The 21-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Chelsea in 2024, has established himself as one of the Premier League's most sought-after left-backs.
Interest from Manchester United
Hall is considered a player of 'real interest' at Old Trafford, and the player himself is open to joining the Red Devils ahead of the new season. However, the report stresses that no talks have yet taken place regarding a transfer. While Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is keen to keep Hall, an offer in the region of £50 million could tempt the Magpies into a sale. Hall's current contract runs until June 2029.
Chelsea also in contention
Chelsea have also been tentatively linked with a move for their former academy player, following Marc Cucurella's recent exit to Real Madrid. Hall left Chelsea in search of regular playing time and has since become a key figure at Newcastle, playing an integral role in their historic Carabao Cup triumph last year and continuing his strong form into the following season. He missed out on a place in Thomas Tuchel's 26-man England squad for the World Cup, a decision that surprised many.
Wright-Phillips backs Hall move
Speaking to Jackpot City Casino, former Chelsea and England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips encouraged Chelsea to re-sign Hall as a replacement for Cucurella. He said: 'Cucurella I think is a massive loss. I think he's a fantastic player, not only from his performance in the World Cup, but since he found his feet at Chelsea. He was at a club that was in many ways in disarray, they didn't know where they were going or what direction they were heading. As soon as they got a manager in place that had a tactical side to him, you saw the good Cucurella they bought. For me, he's just grown since that moment. To lose somebody of that magnitude will, of course, affect that defence. But it's Chelsea, people move on and clubs like that have to figure out a way to find a suitable enough player that does just as good a job.'
Wright labelled Hall a 'great' talent and backed him for a 'superb' career if he stays injury-free. 'Lewis Hall would be a fantastic replacement for Chelsea. I think he's a great player. I was one of the ones who was shocked that he wasn't playing in the World Cup, to be honest with you. But that will give him a little bit of grit between the teeth as well. As long as he can stay fit, he's got a superb career in front of him.'
