Leeds fan called 'disgrace' for abusing Sir Alex Ferguson at Elland Road
Leeds fan 'disgrace' for Ferguson abuse at Elland Road

A Leeds United supporter has been branded 'a disgrace' after filming himself abusing Sir Alex Ferguson at Elland Road. The 84-year-old managerial icon was in Yorkshire on Sunday to watch his former club Manchester United play out a 1-1 draw with the Whites.

As Ferguson left his seat in the VIP box, a chuckling Leeds fan got his attention before calling him a 'c***'. The incident has sparked widespread uproar in football circles, with pundit Simon Jordan and former Burnley, Everton and Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche launching a stinging attack on the perpetrator.

Dyche and Jordan condemn the abuse

Speaking on talkSPORT, Dyche said: "Well unfortunately about the modern world that it is, firstly we're going to have to speak about it, rightly so, because it's an absolute joke. It's a disgrace for me."

"But that sort of adds more power to it because then other people go and Google it, but I think it's fair to show our respect to the fact we're not having it. I'm not having it. It's gone too far people doing that. For one, I've got elderly parents. Just as a person, as a human being, why you'd do that."

"This is too far. Honestly I think it's a disgrace. I don't even know how people think that's funny, and yet somehow the world is like that now."

Jordan: 'There is a line'

Former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan added: "I mean it's not something Alex wouldn't have heard before from rival fans. I mean he's a strong character, he'll take no notice of it. He's a statesman of the game."

"There is of course a massive rivalry between Man United and Leeds, but there is a line. To suggest that someone should say to him some silly little twerp in the stand, it's mindless."

Jordan also suggested Leeds themselves will be disappointed and embarrassed by the incident, as they recognise they are a significant football club in the Premier League that wants its reputation to be of the highest order.
