Frank Leboeuf slams Enzo Maresca's 'worst 48 hours' comments at Chelsea
Leboeuf tells Maresca: Explain Chelsea comments or stay quiet

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has delivered a blunt message to current manager Enzo Maresca, telling him to either explain his recent cryptic comments or keep quiet altogether.

Maresca's Mysterious Outburst

The controversy stems from Maresca's emotional post-match press conference following Chelsea's 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton last weekend. Despite the positive result, the Italian manager revealed the preceding two days had been his "worst 48 hours" since arriving at Stamford Bridge. He pointedly refused to elaborate on who or what had prompted this stark admission, immediately fuelling intense speculation.

Many observers suggested the comments were directed at the club's ownership and sporting directors. When journalists pressed Maresca for clarification days later, ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Cardiff City, he grew irritable and insisted he had nothing more to add.

Leboeuf's Frustrated Response

Leboeuf, who won five trophies during his five-year stint with Chelsea between 1996 and 2001, has now publicly criticised the manager's handling of the situation. Speaking to football.london via ToonieBet, the Frenchman expressed his confusion and frustration.

"It's maybe the first time after two losses and one draw he felt the pressure and to come out with that," Leboeuf stated. "Before the game against Cardiff, he said, 'I was really clear about the situation.' No, you weren't. We didn't understand a word of what you were saying because we don't understand who you are targeting."

Leboeuf acknowledged the immense pressure of managing Chelsea but argued such vague statements are unhelpful. "I love that club, I think the coach is doing the best he can, but don't come out with those kind of comments because we don't get it," he added.

Focus Must Return to Top-Four Battle

The former defender's core message was that the drama should not distract from the team's primary objective. He urged everyone at the club to concentrate on securing a return to the Champions League.

"Let's forget about it because I think it doesn't mean anything and keep on working and make sure that Chelsea is gonna qualify for the Champions League next season," Leboeuf concluded.

This advice comes at a critical juncture. Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, but their recent form—two draws and a loss—has allowed chasing teams to close the gap. Sunderland, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Crystal Palace are all now just two points behind the Blues.

The fixture list offers little respite. Maresca's squad faces a tough trip to Newcastle United this weekend, followed by a home clash against Aston Villa after the festive period. These matches will provide a stern test of Chelsea's top-four credentials and the manager's ability to handle mounting pressure.
