Leaked 2004 Man Utd Transfer List Shows Solskjaer Faces Same Issues as Ferguson

A leaked transfer list from 2004 reveals that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's current struggles at Manchester United mirror those of Sir Alex Ferguson. The document, which resurfaced on social media, categorises players by position and value to Ferguson's squad.

The list includes a 'squad section' with Ryan Giggs and Ruud van Nistelrooy, an 'excess' section with Luke Chadwick and Diego Forlan, and a 'youth potential' section with Kieran Richardson and Phil Bardsley. It also highlights Ferguson's need for a centre-back, with targets including Gabriel Heinze, Philippe Mexes, Vincent Kompany, Gerard Pique, and forward Alan Smith.

United signed three of those targets, but neither Heinze nor Pique made a significant impact. Ferguson failed to find the right defensive partner, and United went two more years without winning the Premier League. It was not until the 2006 signing of Nemanja Vidic that the club regained dominance.

Fast forward to 2021, Solskjaer's United are title contenders but need a centre-back partner for Harry Maguire. Mirror Sport reports that Jules Kounde is a target. If Solskjaer can secure the right defender, he may emulate Ferguson's success after Vidic's arrival.
