Real Madrid are preparing to announce the signing of Kylian Mbappé on a free transfer early this week, according to sources. The France striker confirmed last month that he would leave Paris Saint-Germain after seven years, but his destination has not been formally confirmed until now.
Madrid wanted to wait until their season concluded before making a public statement. With a 15th Champions League title secured, and France coach Didier Deschamps urging clarity before Euro 2024, the club is finally in a position to announce the deal, which they hope will come on Monday.
Mbappé is not expected to be presented until mid-July due to France's European Championship preparations. It remains unclear whether he will also participate in the Olympic Games in Paris.
After the Champions League final, Carlo Ancelotti declined to comment on Mbappé's arrival, but Jude Bellingham said the forward would 'take us to the next level'. The signing ends a seven-year pursuit by Madrid, with Mbappé joining on a free transfer after PSG rejected a €200m offer from Madrid in 2021.
Mbappé leaves PSG without a Champions League title, joining the record winners instead. Madrid will hold a trophy parade on Sunday evening, visiting the city hall, cathedral, statue of Cibeles, and the Santiago Bernabéu.
