Vincent Kompany's presence in the dugout for Bayern Munich's Champions League match against Arsenal is uncertain after he was sidelined with a viral infection. The Bayern boss missed training and his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, with assistant coach Aaron Danks stepping in.
Kompany Rests at Home
A Bayern Munich statement confirmed: "Vincent Kompany is taking it easy due to a viral infection and will therefore miss today's training session and press conference." Danks revealed that Kompany is resting at home and that his involvement in Wednesday's game remains unclear.
"So Vincent has had a virus and it has been really important that he rests and getting Vincent to rest is a difficult challenge but he is at home resting," Danks said. "We take it day-by-day so I'm still unsure of his involvement tomorrow but we are in constant communication."
Team News Ahead of Allianz Arena Showdown
Bayern face Arsenal at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, looking to bounce back after a 3-3 draw with Viking on matchday two. Despite Kompany's absence from training, Danks confirmed the Belgian will still play a role in the game, whether from the touchline or remotely.
Captain Manuel Neuer is set to return after missing the 6-1 win over RB Leipzig with a foot problem, with Jonas Urbig expected to make way. Joshua Kimmich, who scored in the 2023-24 quarter-final win over Arsenal, was also absent from training due to private reasons but should be available. Jamal Musiala, however, is set to miss out after sustaining a torn muscle fiber in his right thigh during international duty.
