Jurgen Klopp's Former £4m Mansion Remains Unsold After Arne Slot Snub
The luxurious former residence of ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp continues to languish on the property market, having failed to attract a buyer despite a significant price reduction. The iconic German coach, who is set to return to Anfield this weekend for a legends match against Borussia Dortmund, left the club in the summer of 2024, but his six-bedroom home in the scenic Freshfield area of Formby remains unchanged and unsold.
Price Reduction and Historical Significance
Initially listed at £4.25 million, the asking price for this opulent property has now been lowered to £4 million. Situated on what is locally known as 'Millionaire's Row', the house has a storied history with Liverpool Football Club, having been linked to the team for over two decades. Previous occupants include former manager Brendan Rodgers and club legend Steven Gerrard, who took up residence in 2005. However, current Reds manager Arne Slot chose not to live in the property, prompting Liverpool to put it up for sale.
Luxurious Amenities and High Interest
This substantial estate boasts an impressive array of features, including seven bathrooms, a swimming pool facility complete with a shower and sauna, and four reception areas. A standout element is a separate entertainment structure that houses a spa and a gym on the upper level. The main house also includes an indoor pool wing reminiscent of a high-end hotel leisure suite, while the principal bedroom suite offers two separate dressing rooms and a luxurious ensuite.
Estate agent William Goulden described it as "an exceptional home in a beautiful part of the country", noting that many are aware of its recent history. According to Rightmove property specialist Tim Bannister, the home ranks among the website's most-viewed listings in 2024, reflecting broad interest from home-hunters across Britain.
Klopp's Legacy and Potential Return
Jurgen Klopp departed Liverpool in May 2024 after a highly successful tenure that began in October 2015, during which he secured nine major honours, including the Premier League and the Champions League. His successor, Arne Slot, led the club to its 20th league championship in his first campaign but has faced scrutiny this term due to inconsistent performances, leaving Liverpool struggling for a top-four finish.
Since leaving, Klopp assumed the role of Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull organisation in January 2025 but remains linked with vacancies at top European clubs like Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. He has not ruled out a return to Liverpool, stating last year that he would never coach another English club apart from the Reds, making a theoretical comeback possible. Should Liverpool part ways with Slot this summer, Klopp would likely be a prime candidate for a return, with his former mansion conveniently available for reoccupation.
