Jurgen Klopp has reportedly sold his Liverpool mansion following his announcement that he will step down as manager at the end of the season. The German coach, who revealed he is 'running out of energy' for the role, is said to have put his Wirral property on the market as he prepares to leave Merseyside.
The news comes as Liverpool fans grapple with the reality of Klopp's departure, with some already offering £25,000 for prime seats behind the dugout for his final home game against Wolves on May 19. The tickets, with a face value of just £60, are being resold at a 40,700 percent profit on black market websites.
Captain Virgil van Dijk admitted the decision is 'hard to take' but called on the squad to focus on winning silverware to give Klopp a fitting send-off. 'He means so much for us, to me, to the club,' Van Dijk said. 'Our mindset is to focus on business. We have a lot of targets still to achieve this year.'
Liverpool's search for a successor is already under way, with former hero Xabi Alonso emerging as a favourite. The club have not yet approached candidates due to concerns about leaks, but director of research Will Spearman has been conducting background work on potential replacements.
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane backed Klopp's decision, calling it 'the right one' and praising the German as 'brilliant for the Premier League'. Klopp informed Liverpool chiefs of his decision in November and made it public on Friday.
