Roy Keane brands Gabriel Martinelli a 'disgrace' after Arsenal-Liverpool clash
Keane slams Martinelli as 'disgrace' over injury incident

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has launched a scathing attack on Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli, labelling the Brazilian's behaviour during Thursday's clash with Liverpool as an 'absolute disgrace'.

The Controversial Incident at the Emirates

The flashpoint occurred in the latter stages of the 0-0 Premier League draw at the Emirates Stadium on 8 January 2026. Liverpool's young defender Conor Bradley went down in clear agony after appearing to pick up a serious leg injury while attempting to clear the ball.

Rather than showing concern for the stricken opponent, Martinelli first dropped the ball onto Bradley. The Arsenal star then attempted to physically shove the injured player off the pitch, sparking a furious confrontation between the two sides.

Pundits Unite in Condemnation

The incident resulted in yellow cards for both Martinelli and Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate, while Bradley was eventually stretchered off in significant pain. Speaking on Sky Sports, an incensed Roy Keane did not hold back in his criticism.

'I didn't like it at all,' Keane stated. 'It happened to me once. I was badly injured and a player stood over me. It's not good... Throwing the ball at him, standing over him and getting a little knee on him. He tries to force him off. That behaviour is an absolute disgrace.'

Keane, who suggested Martinelli should apologise, was joined in his outrage by fellow pundit and former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge called the actions 'disrespectful' and argued that while passion is important, players must retain self-awareness and respect for injured opponents.

Neville's Fiery Reaction

The condemnation extended to the commentary booth, where Manchester United legend Gary Neville delivered an even more explosive verdict. Neville admitted he was surprised no Liverpool player retaliated more aggressively.

'I'm fuming with Martinelli,' Neville declared. 'I don't know how a Liverpool player didn't go and whack him and take the red card. Absolutely disgraceful.' He emphasised that an apology from the Arsenal player was necessary.

The match itself ended in a stalemate, but the post-match discussion was dominated by this unsavoury moment. Both teams now turn their attention to the FA Cup, with Arsenal facing Portsmouth and Liverpool hosting Barnsley at Anfield on Monday.
