Manchester United legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville have both stated that they anticipate Michael Carrick will be appointed as the club's permanent manager. The pair shared their views on Monday evening, following Carrick's second loss as interim boss in a 2-1 defeat against Leeds United at Old Trafford.
Despite the setback, United remain third in the Premier League, three points ahead of Liverpool. Carrick took over when the club was seventh, and his results have generated growing momentum for him to be handed the role permanently.
Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Neville said: 'The more the candidates dwindle away, the more Michael gets toward third place, there are more advantages of keeping him. What you can't do is take a chance in swapping him for a manager you're not sure about.' He added that Carrick is settling the club down off the pitch.
Keane reflected: 'It's a nice problem to have. I fully expected when he got the job to win some football matches. He had a dream start, winning against City and Arsenal. If he can finish the season strongly, it looks like they can do.'
