Manchester United academy prospect Kai Rooney will miss the remainder of the season after revealing the news on social media. The teenager, son of former United star Wayne Rooney, wrote on Instagram Stories: "Disappointed to be out for the rest of the season. Back stronger next pre-season."
Rooney made his Old Trafford debut earlier this season in the FA Youth Cup and went on to make six league appearances for the Under-18 side, scoring twice and adding one assist. His absence is a blow for Michael Carrick's youth setup.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer move for Arsenal teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly. The England international has seen his first-team opportunities diminish at the Emirates this season, having made just 312 minutes of Premier League football.
Lewis-Skelly, who can play left-back or midfield, impressed last term with 23 league appearances but has found the going tougher this campaign. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta acknowledged: "Every season is different. He had very good moments... but other moments when he hasn't played as much."
United are thought to be in the market for a left-back this summer, and the 18-year-old's versatility would provide cover. The club already have Paraguayan teenager Diego Leon in their Under-21 ranks, but a new senior option is being sought.
