Kai Rooney, son of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, will miss the FA Youth Cup final against Manchester City on Thursday due to a thigh injury suffered in March. The 16-year-old forward had been playing a minor role for the Under-18s in the competition before being sidelined.
Despite the setback, Kai has impressed this season, helping the Under-16s win the Premier League Shield. He has also featured for the Under-18s, making his debut at Old Trafford earlier this year with his parents watching from the stands.
Kai had previously asked his father to stop attending his grassroots matches because the former England captain was constantly mobbed by fans. However, the ban appears to have been eased as Kai has grown older, with Wayne spotted at recent Under-18s games.
The young forward will be eligible to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17. In March, he signed with Triple S Sports Management, the agency that represented his father throughout his career.
