Golf star Justin Rose has made a significant career announcement on the eve of the Cadillac Championship, revealing he has become McLaren Golf's first Tour player and investor. The move comes shortly after his third-place finish at the Masters, where he narrowly missed out on the Green Jacket.
McLaren Golf's First Signing
McLaren, the automotive giant closely associated with Formula 1, hinted at entering the golf world last month. Now, in a major coup for the brand, US Open champion and Olympic gold medallist Rose has become the first player to sign up. According to McLaren, Rose worked closely with their engineering and development teams, testing prototypes, providing feedback, and playing a hands-on role in shaping their new equipment. He will make his debut with McLaren Golf's equipment at the Cadillac Championship on Thursday, April 30.
Rose's Passion for the Project
Reflecting on the partnership, Rose said: "From the beginning, this has been a passion project. I've had the opportunity to be involved from the outset - working with the team, testing the clubs and helping shape what they've become. That level of involvement, combined with the standards McLaren brings to everything they do, made this an easy decision for me. I'm excited to put the clubs in play and watch the brand flourish."
Rose will proudly display McLaren's iconic papaya colour on the course via a McLaren Golf staff bag and will also sport the McLaren logo on his chest.
Masters Heartbreak Continues
This year's Masters marked Rose's fourth top-three finish at Augusta without winning the Green Jacket, a record bettered only by Greg Norman's six. Rose finished runner-up in 2015 and 2017, lost the play-off to Rory McIlroy in 2025, and was defeated at Amen Corner this time. At 45, he would have become the second-oldest player to win a Green Jacket, surpassed only by Jack Nicklaus in 1986 at age 46. Despite the disappointment, Rose remains determined: "You look at Freddy, the way he plays around here. Bernard Langer. The guys get around this golf course. It does show this course maybe more than anywhere suits maybe personal style or knowledge or whatever it might be. But, yeah, I hope so."
