Mikel Arteta is optimistic that Jurriën Timber could be fit for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on 27 May, as the Arsenal manager deals with a right-back injury crisis. Ben White has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, while Timber has not played since 14 March due to a groin problem.
Timber, one of Arsenal's most consistent performers this season, suffered a setback in his recovery last month but has recently shown progress. Arteta said: 'He’s progressed a little bit in the last few days; he’s feeling better. We’re going to try to get him available as quickly as possible.' The defender is doing everything he can to return, with Arteta adding: 'His leadership, his quality and how much the team needs him.'
When asked about Timber's chances of facing PSG, Arteta admitted: 'There is a chance. But how big that chance is, I cannot tell you. He’s going to try to do everything he can to convert that chance as high as possible in the shortest possible period.'
Cristhian Mosquera is expected to start at right-back against Burnley on Monday, though Riccardo Calafiori, who returned to training after a knock, could also feature after playing there in last season's win over PSG. Arsenal fans are planning a pre-match welcome for the team coach before the Burnley game, which Arteta believes inspires the players.
