Anthony Joshua has expressed his openness to a future bout with rising heavyweight star Moses Itauma, while also outlining several other potential fights that could follow his long-awaited clashes with Tyson Fury. The British heavyweights, known as 'AJ' and 'The Gypsy King', are finally contracted to meet in the ring later this year, with an all-British showdown scheduled. The date and venue are expected to be announced in the coming months, with a rematch already pencilled in for 2027.
Joshua's Immediate Focus: Kristian Prenga
Before any talk of Fury, Joshua must first overcome Kristian Prenga on 25 July in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The 36-year-old former two-time world champion is treating this as a warm-up fight, but he is not overlooking the Albanian contender. Meanwhile, Fury, 37, is also seeking his own preparatory bout this summer, potentially in Dublin on 1 August.
Joshua's Future Plans Beyond Fury
Speaking to The Ring, Joshua dismissed suggestions that he and Fury might retire after their two-fight series. Instead, he listed a host of enticing matchups that could follow. 'With me and Fury, it can't be the only one,' Joshua said. 'I know if I stay around long enough, there's the rematch with Daniel Dubois, there's a potential Fabio Wardley fight. There's the Agit Kabayel fight out there, providing he becomes champion—how big that would be. There's an Itauma fight as he's coming up the rankings, there's still the Deontay Wilder fight out there.'
Joshua emphasised that he does not view Fury as being above any other opponent. 'These are gonna be massive fights, so Fury's just another number,' he added. 'I'm not putting him on no pedestal, he ain't above no one. They're all in my way, all on the same level.'
Recent Activity and Comeback
Joshua last fought in December, stopping YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in six rounds in Miami. Just ten days later, he survived a serious car crash in Nigeria that tragically claimed the lives of two of his teammates. Fury, meanwhile, ended his fifth retirement from boxing in April to face Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, winning on points as Joshua watched from ringside.
The long-anticipated Joshua-Fury showdown is expected to take place at Wembley Stadium in London, possibly in October or November. With both fighters still hungry for major contests, the heavyweight division looks set for an exciting few years ahead.
