Gabriel Jesus Backs Arsenal for Premier League Glory with Arteta Praise
Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has issued a resounding vote of confidence in his team's ability to secure the Premier League title this season, attributing much of their success to manager Mikel Arteta's influence. The Gunners currently lead the table by nine points over Manchester City with just seven matches remaining, positioning them strongly for their first league championship in over two decades.
Unwavering Confidence in Title Charge
Speaking on 'Rio Ferdinand presents', Jesus left no doubt about his optimism. "Very confident [we will win the title]. Very confident, because we are in a good place and then we have [an] amazing squad," he stated. Despite finishing as runners-up in the previous three seasons, Jesus emphasized that this campaign feels different, with the squad's depth playing a crucial role.
He elaborated on the attacking options, noting: "Not only who play a lot of games, but squad. Like me, obviously, the last few games I haven't been playing a lot, but still I know myself and then I know Mikel knows this. I can come on and then I can decide a game, or I can play one game and then I still can decide again."
Jesus highlighted teammates like Leo, Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, and Kai Havertz, asserting: "If you see our attacking players, it's amazing. So I believe, I believe 100 per cent that this season we are doing something."
Arteta's Transformative Role
When pressed on the shift in mentality at Arsenal, Jesus credited Arteta directly. "Obviously it's Mikko, you know, because he changed everything. Like I said, we said before, he came in a moment that was tough," he explained. "And then to see the way we play, the situation we have now, that we can win titles, you know, we are one of the best clubs in the world, teams in the world. So I think it's Mikko Arteta, he had a lot of impact, you know."
This praise underscores Arteta's role in rebuilding the team since his arrival, transforming them from a side struggling to compete into genuine title contenders.
Challenges and Squad Dynamics
Despite their advantage, Arsenal face potential hurdles. If Manchester City defeat them at the Etihad Stadium and win their game in hand against Crystal Palace, the lead could shrink to just three points with several weeks left. However, Jesus's comments reflect a squad belief that they can navigate these challenges.
Jesus himself has had a limited role this season, playing only 781 minutes after recovering from a serious knee injury in late 2025. Three of his four starts came in the FA Cup, where Arsenal are set to face Southampton next, with young talent Max Dowman possibly starting.
Praise for Young Talent
Jesus also shared insights into the development of teenage prospect Max Dowman, highlighting the contrast with his own upbringing. "Max is still 16. He started with us 15. I told you before. When I was 15, I was playing in the streets. I didn't make it yet. It's crazy. So at 15, you are playing Champions League, Premier League, it's crazy," he remarked.
He added a light-hearted anecdote: "And I ask him after the game, he scored, I say, how was school today? Because it was Sunday, and then Monday I say, how was school today? And he was like, no, I'm going later. I say, oh, okay. Because in Brazil, if this happens, it's impossible to go to school. It's impossible. The people, the fans, yeah. It's impossible. So he's very good, Max, very good. And he's there. He's there, definitely. He's there."
As Arsenal continue their push for the title, the blend of experienced stars like Jesus and emerging talents under Arteta's guidance could prove decisive in the final stretch of the season.
