Jaissle: Steur fine after Craven Cottage scare

Matthias Jaissle says Sean Steur should be fine after the teenager was taken off following an awkward fall during Newcastle United's 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

Steur was among the brighter players in the capital and there were concerns from the away end as he went down after a challenge with Sander Berge. However, the Dutchman, who links up with the Holland Under-21s, left the field walking fine and there were no issues to report for the 18-year-old.

Caution over young stars

On a day when Aladji Bamba was left out of the squad completely and Bazoumana Toure did not get a kick, Jaissle offered an indication on why he is holding back from unleashing his young players.

Offering an update on Steur, Jaissle said: "I think he is good, he's fine. But he felt the physicality which is not 100% there yet."

"It's something I mentioned already before. This is normal if you sign a young lad. He needs to get used to it, but he did an amazing job."

Returning players boost squad

Jaissle's squad is getting back to full strength with Lewis Miley, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Tino Livramento all returning, with Miley and the Belgian youngster involved in the second half. It was a significant boost for the German head coach as he looks to reverse United's fortunes.

Jaissle said: "That's good and these players aren't 100% ready but they came back from injuries and illness, they are part of the squad and they can help us now."

Belief of victory

The Newcastle boss believed his team did enough to win the game and felt there was a good response from the 1-0 loss to Everton. Dan Burn was denied a goal by an infringement from Yoane Wissa, Harvey Barnes passed up a couple of chances and Lewis Hall almost won it at the end.

Jaissle said: "Yes. I believe we did enough to win the game. I think, compared to the last match, we spoke really during the week, and we saw that from people also."

"There was a complete commitment on the pitch but we were better in all phases of the game. Especially as the game wore on."

"The first 20 minutes, we saw the lack of confidence from last week's performance but the way that we grew then throughout that game was excellent."
