Jeremy Jacquet has spoken of his delight at playing alongside Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool, describing the experience as "fantastic" as the pair build a partnership at centre-back.
The Reds are unbeaten under new head coach Andoni Iraola and have kept clean sheets in their last three Premier League matches. Jacquet has impressed since his £55m move from Stade Rennes in the summer, with his form earning attention in France.
International debut under Zidane
The 21-year-old was handed his international debut by Zinedine Zidane during the September/October break, starting back-to-back games as France beat Belgium 1-0 and drew 0-0 with Italy.
Jacquet is eager to build on his promising start for both club and country. Reflecting on his first senior international experience, he told Telefoot: "It's pure pleasure. I wasn't expecting so much noise in the stadium. I used to watch the matches on TV, now I'm part of it.
"I'm happy with these first two caps. I've always been a calm player with the ball, and well, here I am, playing my football. I don't think about it too much. I only have two caps. I take the opportunities the coach gives me and try to savour them. Because things go by so fast."
Life at Liverpool
Jacquet also discussed his rapid adjustment at Anfield, praising the squad around him. "It's all happening very quickly (at Liverpool) too. We have a good group, so everything is going well. Playing with him (Van Dijk) is fantastic. There are few defenders who have reached his level."
He added: "Years of suffering, I haven't had an easy life. I have had back and knee problems. I'm trying to look straight ahead. So now, I'm happy. I play for my nation, my country, and under the guidance of Zinedine Zidane."
