Ivan Toney jokes Arsenal should play Declan Rice up front after brace

Ivan Toney has cheekily suggested Arsenal should consider using Declan Rice as a striker after the midfielder scored twice in a 3-2 win over Bournemouth. Rice's brace helped the Gunners extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The England international, who plays in midfield for Mikel Arteta's side, scored twice in the second half after Gabriel had cancelled out Evanilson's opener. Eli Junior Kroupi's late goal proved only a consolation for the hosts.

After the match, Rice posted a photo on Instagram with the caption 'Brace on the road.' Toney, who left Brentford for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli in 2024, replied: 'Get him upfront,' accompanied by heart-eyed emojis.

Other players also praised Rice, including Arsenal teammate Jurrien Timber, Aston Villa's Matty Cash, and England Women's star Chloe Kelly. Arsenal now hold a six-point advantage over Aston Villa and sit seven points ahead of Manchester City.

The Gunners' next fixture is a home match against Liverpool on Thursday, January 8, before facing Portsmouth and Chelsea in cup competitions. January also includes league games against Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, and Leeds, plus Champions League ties with Inter Milan and Kairat.
