Isak: Sloppy Liverpool only have themselves to blame

Alexander Isak believes Liverpool have only themselves to blame for the "sloppy" manner in which they surrendered their 100% Champions League record in Istanbul.

Goals from Trey Nyoni and Isak twice gave the Reds the lead against Fenerbahce on Wednesday evening only for poor defending to allow the Turkish side to fight back on each occasion before securing a 3-2 victory.

It was Liverpool's second successive defeat after the weekend Premier League loss at home to Arsenal and a third reverse in 15 games in all competitions under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

Isak's blunt assessment

And Isak said: "It's never easy but today we could and should have got more out of the game.

"It was a bit sloppy that we had the lead twice, and for us to then lose the game is not good enough. Obviously we are going to be disappointed with that.

"The atmosphere is really good and it's tough. The one thing you can do to keep them quiet is to score goals.

"It's a shame we conceded so quickly (after scoring). We should have capitalised on that and there's where we were lacking today."

Seventh goal of the season

Isak's goal - scoring just three minutes after being brought on from the bench - was his seventh of the season and his first in the Champions League for Liverpool.

And speaking to LFC TV, he added: "I was happy (with the goal) and was hoping it was going to lead to more. I'm always happy to score goals but today we lost and it takes a bit from it.

"We put ourselves in a good position. To lose this game is not a chaos situation, we just have to get back to winning games. If we win our next game then we are back to a really good position."
