Alexander Isak was seen applauding Hugo Ekitike after the Liverpool striker scored a brace to overturn Newcastle United's early lead at Anfield. The Sweden international, sidelined with ankle and fibula injuries, watched from behind the dugout as his team-mate inspired a comeback.
Ekitike, who joined Liverpool last summer after being linked with Newcastle, equalised in the 41st minute and then put the Reds ahead moments later with a cool finish past Nick Pope. His double takes his season tally to 15 goals across all competitions, with 10 in the Premier League.
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard praised Ekitike on TNT Sports, comparing the striker to club legend Fernando Torres. 'It's Torres-like,' Gerrard said. 'He just gets it out of his feet and reminds me of Torres every time I watch him.'
Isak, a £125m January signing from Newcastle, has yet to face his former club due to injury but was delighted to see his team-mate step up. The win helped Arne Slot's side recover from last week's defeat to Bournemouth.
