Denied White House Meeting
Despite rumours suggesting Infantino sought a call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to salvage his position, no such meeting was scheduled. US Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs Dylan Johnson publicly denied claims of Infantino reaching out to Donald Trump's Cabinet members.
National Associations Withdraw Support
The Football Association of Wales became one of the first governing bodies to officially withdraw its support for Infantino's re-election bid, citing growing concerns over governance and the strategic direction of FIFA. England quickly followed, withdrawing its formal endorsement for the next presidential cycle, with the FA expressing deep concerns over the recent decision-making process. The Football Association of Serbia also publicly withdrew its support after re-evaluating the president's recent decisions.
Trump Support and Opposition Plans
According to The Telegraph, US President Donald Trump will support Infantino and will do 'everything possible' to ensure the FIFA President stays in the job. However, The Times reports that UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation have plans to 'paralyse FIFA' if Infantino continues his re-election bid, effectively forcing him out. FIFA's opponents are reportedly prepared to set up rival international competitions.
