A dramatic bus crash in Minehead could have ended in tragedy if not for the heroic actions of a local horse trainer, who risked his own safety to save passengers.
The incident occurred when a double-decker bus collided with a wall in the Somerset seaside town, leaving several people injured and trapped inside the vehicle.
Quick Thinking Saves Lives
Warren Greatrex, a well-known figure in the horse racing world, was among the first on the scene. Without hesitation, the trainer climbed onto the wreckage to help passengers escape through the emergency exit.
"I just acted on instinct," Greatrex later told reporters. "When you see people in danger, you don't think - you just do what needs to be done."
Emergency Services Praise Heroic Efforts
Emergency services arriving at the scene found Greatrex already assisting injured passengers. Paramedics later confirmed his actions likely prevented more serious injuries.
"The bus was at a dangerous angle when we arrived," said a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police. "Mr Greatrex's quick thinking and bravery undoubtedly made a significant difference."
Community Rallies Around Heroes
Local residents have praised both Greatrex and the emergency services for their response to the incident. The bus driver, who sustained serious injuries, is currently recovering in hospital.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, with early reports suggesting mechanical failure may have been a factor.
