Henderson: Alonso's Chelsea vision 'beginning to take shape'

Jordan Henderson believes Xabi Alonso's vision for Chelsea is "beginning to take shape" after the Blues climbed to fourth in the Premier League with a 2-0 win at Everton on Saturday.

Pedro Neto scored twice at Goodison Park to secure Chelsea's first clean sheet in the league for nine months. Henderson, who joined Chelsea on a free transfer in the summer after leaving Brentford, has been a key figure in midfield alongside Moises Caicedo over the last two matches, scoring twice and registering an assist in the 5-1 home win over Bournemouth.

Togetherness key to early progress

Henderson said: "It is an absolute privilege and honour to be playing with some of the players in this team. I'm just enjoying it, working with them every day and playing with them out on the pitch. There's some top quality, top talent, here, and I really feel like the team's beginning to take shape in terms of the togetherness and everything."

The 36-year-old added: "There's been a lot of new change in the summer – new coaching staff and players coming in – but I really feel that the togetherness is coming, not only in training during the week on the field, off the field as well. That's going to be important for us going forward and I'm loving every second of it."

Eyes on Tottenham clash

Henderson acknowledged there is room for improvement, saying: "I know we've still got a lot to improve on as a team, but I feel as though in the last couple of weeks we're going in the right direction. So, we'll go back to the training ground and keep working hard for the next game."

Chelsea will look for a third consecutive league win when they host London rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge next weekend.
