Ange Postecoglou has led Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title, prompting a public apology from former Scottish international Alan Brazil, who had previously ridiculed the Australian's appointment as manager. Brazil, now a broadcaster, had mocked the signing in June 2021, mispronouncing Postecoglou's name and questioning his credentials.
Speaking on his radio show after Celtic's 1-1 draw with Dundee United secured the title, Brazil ate humble pie. 'Listen, I am delighted. I like eating humble pie. I will apologise live, now. Ange, different class. What a job you've done. It's fantastic and I take it all back,' he said.
The title is Celtic's tenth in eleven years, and Postecoglou becomes the first Australian coach to win a major European league. The 56-year-old former Socceroos boss described the achievement as overwhelming. 'It's pretty special. For the first time this year, I'm lost for words. It's fair to say it's taken every ounce of me,' he said.
Postecoglou quit as Australia coach after qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, citing a lack of long-term vision from the federation. He now joins an elite group of managers to have won the Scottish top flight in their first season.
