Harry Maguire has revealed that Manchester United rejected five approaches for him this summer, as the 32-year-old defender eyes a long-term future at Old Trafford and a potential move into coaching.
The England international, who joined United in 2019, signed a one-year contract extension last season triggered by the club. Maguire confirmed that the clause was in the club's hands, with no option for him to decide. He stated that United made it clear he could not leave on any terms, quickly dismissing enquiries from several clubs.
Maguire, described as a deep thinker on the game, has ambitions to move into coaching after his playing career. He is highly regarded by the United hierarchy and manager Ruben Amorim, who reportedly extended his contract because the squad was 'starved of leaders'. The defender is seen as a mentor for young players and is identified as having coaching potential.
Speaking about his future, Maguire said: 'I'm sure over the next few months we'll have to have a conversation about where we want to go and if they want to extend. Obviously, I have something in my mind about what I want to do and where I want to be. It's an amazing club to play for and you'd be silly if you wanted to jump out of it as soon as you could.'
Maguire also expressed optimism about the club's direction under Amorim, noting that the structure behind the management staff is in a much better place compared to when he joined six years ago. He remains determined to continue playing, ideally for another two years at Old Trafford.
