Erling Haaland has revealed that his girlfriend, Isabel Haugseng Johansen, expressed frustration over the amount of football they watch, as the couple tuned in to Manchester United's 1-1 draw with West Ham last Thursday. The Manchester City striker shared the anecdote during an appearance on the 'The Rest Is Football' podcast with Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker.
Haaland, 25, said: 'Yeah, I’m a football fan, so I watch all kinds of football. Actually, yesterday, we were eating dinner, and I checked if there were any games. Man Utd, West Ham is playing. Let’s put it on. My missus said, 'I’m so sick of football. We watch it all the time.' And I’m like, yeah, that’s the reason why we are sitting here.'
The Norwegian striker, who has scored 144 goals in 166 appearances for City, is in a long-term relationship with 21-year-old Isabel, whom he met at his first club, Bryne FK. The remark highlights Haaland's deep passion for the sport, contrasting with some players like Arsenal's Ben White, who have admitted to not following football closely.
City manager Pep Guardiola recently praised Haaland's hunger and influence, comparing him to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. 'You see the numbers of that guy? Of course he’s that level,' Guardiola said. 'He has that hunger. It’s top.'
