Chelsea winger Noni Madueke caused a stir on social media late Saturday night by posting an expletive-laden comment about Wolverhampton ahead of the team's Premier League match against Wolves. The 22-year-old shared an Instagram story with a location tag confirming the Chelsea squad was in Wolverhampton, accompanied by the message: "Everything about this place is s**t."
Madueke quickly deleted the post and issued a follow-up, claiming he had accidentally posted to his public account instead of a private one intended for family and friends. "Damn wrong Instagram account... you lot are too fast," he wrote, adding crying-laughing and face-palm emojis. He then posted a matchday graphic previewing the clash.
The incident comes as Chelsea seek their first Premier League win of the season after a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on the opening weekend. Madueke, who scored off the bench in Chelsea's 2-0 Europa Conference League win over Servette on Thursday, has yet to start a league game this term.
Manager Enzo Maresca has stressed the need for consistency from Madueke, saying: "I really like Noni. The only problem is that he has to understand that he has to be consistent during the week in training. He's a good player and he's doing well with us."
