Manchester City extended their perfect Premier League record to seven wins from seven with a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town, but the sight of Erling Haaland hobbling off moments before the final whistle will concern supporters.
Haaland scored twice to take his season tally to 12 in all competitions. He looked tired approaching the final 15 minutes and was not replaced when Enzo Maresca made a triple change at 3-1. He stayed on and could have had a hat-trick, but a strike was ruled out by VAR for an offside against Enzo Fernandez in the build-up.
Maresca on Haaland's fitness
After the match, Maresca gave a positive update on his star striker's fitness. "I asked him and he said he was okay so hopefully it is nothing serious," said Maresca. "We will see. I don't have any news at the moment."
Haaland was the third of five City players to seemingly pick up an injury in what could turn out to be a costly afternoon. Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Nico O'Reilly were taken off with issues, and substitute Antoine Semenyo followed Haaland in walking gingerly off the pitch at full-time.
Champions League clash ahead
With AEK Athens visiting the Etihad in the Champions League on Tuesday night, the question arises whether this is the perfect chance to rest Haaland, fit or not. Fans are being asked to share their thoughts in a poll.
