Erling Haaland has posted a cryptic social media message as he remains a major doubt for Manchester City's Champions League clash against AEK Athens. The striker sustained a knock during the Premier League win over Ipswich and was not spotted in training on Monday.
Haaland's Fitness in Question
City welcome the Greek side to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, looking to bounce back from last week's 4-2 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Haaland scored both of City's goals against PSG, but he is now a major doubt for matchday three of the league phase, along with Nico O'Reilly, Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes.
The Norway international took to social media around five hours before the team lineup announcement, uploading a post that has left fans guessing. It remains unclear whether Haaland posted from home or from the Etihad Stadium, leaving his status for the game uncertain.
Manager's Pre-Match Comments
City head coach Enzo Maresca hinted at resting Haaland due to the number of games he has played this season. Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Maresca said: "He can be available. We'll see. We have a session now and we have some doubts after Sunday's game."
"He was quite good yesterday. Better. So we'll see today. Replacing Erling is always difficult. We have some different options and we'll see tomorrow. It depends a little bit on the gameplan and also there is a chance he can be available tomorrow."
The decision on Haaland's involvement will be made after the final training session, with City's lineup expected to be announced ahead of the match.
