Guehi Shows Class by Handing Man of the Match Award to Cherki After City Win

Marc Guehi demonstrated his humility by refusing to accept the man-of-the-match award following Manchester City's dominant 3-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The England defender instead chose to hand the accolade to teammate Rayan Cherki, who provided two assists in the win.

City took the lead through Nico O’Reilly's ninth goal of the season, before Guehi added a clinical second. Jeremy Doku sealed the emphatic victory with a third goal. Gary Neville had nominated Guehi for the award on commentary, but the defender opted to recognise Cherki's contribution.

Speaking after the match, Guehi said: 'In the second half especially, we did well. We just want to improve, get better. We keep our feet on the ground, recover and focus on the next one.' Cherki, meanwhile, commented on his assist for Guehi: 'When I gave the pass for him, I'm not good because I don't know if he score. But when he did, I'm happy for him and the team.'

City boss Pep Guardiola praised Cherki's performance, calling him 'an extraordinary talent'. He added: 'We talk a lot, sometimes he plays in the positions close to Donnarumma. Your talent has to be in the final third... If he understands that, he will become an extraordinary player.'

City now sit six points behind Arsenal, albeit with a game in hand, and face the Gunners next weekend at the Etihad Stadium.
