Marc Guehi has revealed that Manchester City players remain calm despite the club being found guilty of breaching financial rules, because they trust the reassurances they have received from the club's hierarchy. City maintain their innocence and are appealing the verdict, and the players have quickly accepted the guidance given to them.
Leadership group backs club
Guehi is part of the four-man leadership team at the Etihad, having been added to the group by Enzo Maresca in the summer. Captain Ruben Dias and his deputy Erling Haaland were both at the club when the charges were first announced in 2023, and they have encouraged the squad to focus on winning football matches.
"The club notified everyone straight away so we were pretty calm," he said. "There were a lot of relaxed faces because we have a lot of trust and belief in the club and what's been going on here."
Team spirit praised
Guehi highlighted the unity within the squad during the ongoing situation. "It's been nice, it's been good. We get to see a lot of togetherness. The team spirit has been really fantastic from every single person and player - especially the staff and the fans that are backing us. To be honest, it's been great to see."
He added: "It can be very easy to listen to the noise and be affected by everything going on but I'm so happy to see the team spirit and everyone taking to what's happening and just focusing on the football."
Guehi committed to City's future
Guehi only joined City in the January transfer window, but the former Crystal Palace captain immediately trusted the messages he received when news of the guilty verdict broke three weeks ago. The 26-year-old intends to remain part of the club's future as they fight to overturn the decision.
"Ever since I've got here they've been nothing but fantastic with me," he added. "The support that I've had with tough times on and off the pitch. I'm aware of the success the club has had and I want to be part of the future success. You get the sense from everyone at the football club that it's a family club, people love one another. I can only talk from my experience."
