Pep Guardiola has praised Erling Haaland for his remarkable self-control despite the rough treatment he endures from Premier League defenders. The Manchester City manager highlighted the striker's discipline ahead of Sunday's match against Arsenal, a team with whom Haaland had a heated encounter earlier this season.
In the reverse fixture, Haaland was involved in a physical battle with Arsenal centre-backs Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba. After John Stones scored a 97th-minute equaliser, Haaland threw the ball at the back of Gabriel's head, sparking a confrontation. He later told Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to 'stay humble' after the final whistle.
Guardiola dismissed the idea that this incident reflects a lack of control, noting that Haaland has only been booked twice in 32 appearances this season. 'I'm surprised how he can control his emotions because with every action he's pulled... and the referee is always 'play on',' Guardiola said. 'It's not about what Erling does for one day. He behaves incredibly well.'
The City boss also addressed reports that he had spoken to Sergio Busquets about a move from Inter Miami, denying any such conversation. 'He is so happy in Miami,' Guardiola said. 'The weather there is so delightful. I spoke to Sergio, not for that issue.'
