Gordon Ramsay's Heartfelt Praise for Son-in-Law Adam Peaty Reveals True Bond
Gordon Ramsay has demonstrated his genuine affection and admiration for his new son-in-law, Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, through a series of heartfelt public comments. The celebrity chef, known for his fiery demeanor, has instead shown a softer side, heaping praise on Peaty's character and humility.
A Family Union Forged in Support
Ramsay walked his daughter Holly down the aisle in December at Bath Abbey as she married Peaty, a three-time Olympic gold and three-time silver medallist. The couple first met in 2021 when Peaty performed on Strictly Come Dancing, with their relationship confirmed two years later. Despite Peaty's immense success in the pool, Ramsay insists the athlete remains remarkably grounded.
"He's a gent, he's an absolute thoroughbred. Adam is so grounded. He's not walking out as Olympic champion with his head up his a***," Ramsay said in a candid remark that underscores his respect for Peaty's modesty.
Public and Private Affirmations
This is not the first time the 59-year-old Scot has spoken highly of the newest member of his family. Ramsay has formed a close bond with Peaty in recent years, a relationship that deepened after the Ramsay family supported the swimmer through struggles with mental health and alcohol. This closeness was evident during Peaty's appearance on the High Performance podcast, where host Jake Humphrey read out a text Ramsay had sent about his then-future son-in-law.
In the text, Ramsay wrote: "I want you to know he's an amazing young man with such a great attitude. Honestly, I could not ask for a more down-to-earth, respectable future son-in-law. What he's achieved is incredible and he's not done yet. Looking forward to catching up soon."
Emotional Reciprocity and Future Aspirations
Upon hearing Ramsay's words, Peaty was visibly moved, expressing his emotions on the podcast. "That makes me emotional, I don't want to cry on the podcast but it makes me very emotional," Peaty said. He went on to praise Ramsay's guidance and support, highlighting the balance between high-performance athletics, family life, and love.
Peaty added: "In this last year or so, seeing how he performs; the balance he has to create in his life with high performance, family life and love, his children and his wife is incredible. I love how he's already signing me up for the LA [Olympics in 2028] but he's a great father-in-law. Hopefully, next year... we already call it father-in-law and mother-in-law."
Memorable Moments and Family Approval
Ramsay has since shared a humorous anecdote about the moment Peaty asked him and his wife, Tana, for Holly's hand in marriage. "I thought, 'F***, he wants to borrow a car,'" Ramsay jokingly recalled. Meanwhile, Peaty, 31, described the experience as daunting yet wonderful, noting that it brought tears to both parents' eyes, which he saw as a positive sign.
Tana Ramsay has echoed her husband's sentiments, telling Closer magazine: "The fact that he is kind, genuine, loving and I see how he makes our daughter feel. You cannot ask for more than that." This collective family approval underscores the strong, supportive dynamic that has developed between Ramsay and Peaty, transcending their public personas to reveal a genuine, heartfelt connection.
