Will Ferrell's opening monologue on Saturday Night Live was interrupted by his doppelgänger, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, during the show's season finale on May 16. The sketch played on their long-noted resemblance, with Smith initially appearing on stage before Ferrell emerged from behind him, dressed identically.
Ferrell quipped, 'What the hell do you think you're doing?! You're not the host, I am! You're Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.' Smith eventually ceded the stage, and Ferrell struggled to continue as if nothing had happened. Later, musical guest Paul McCartney joined the gag, pretending to mistake Ferrell for Smith.
Smith later performed on drums for McCartney's set, playing new song 'Days We Left Behind' from the upcoming album 'The Boys Of Dungeon Lane', as well as Wings' 'Band On The Run' and solo hit 'Coming Up'.
Ferrell and Smith have been making light of their uncanny similarity since 2014, when they faced off in a drum battle on The Tonight Show, raising nearly $500,000 for charity. They have since collaborated on multiple occasions, including a charity concert with members of Pearl Jam and Guns N' Roses.
