Glasner to Stay at Crystal Palace Despite Board Tensions

Crystal Palace have decided against sacking manager Oliver Glasner after a meeting on Sunday, despite his public criticism of the board over the sale of captain Marc Guéhi. The Austrian had accused the club of abandoning him and his squad after Guéhi was sold to Manchester City 24 hours before a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland.

Glasner's outburst, in which he admitted he does not care if he sees out his contract until the end of the season, dismayed chairman Steve Parish. However, after talks with sporting director Matt Hobbs, Parish now wants Glasner to remain until the end of the season, with the manager involved in January transfer plans.

The sale of Guéhi for £20m, with the England defender completing a medical in Manchester on Sunday, was the final straw for Glasner. He said: 'Your heart gets torn out twice in a season, one day before a game. We feel that we’re being abandoned. There’s no support.'

Palace believe the sale was in the club's best interest given Guéhi's contract was expiring in the summer. Glasner had previously threatened to resign on the last day of the summer transfer window when Guéhi was close to joining Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Juventus are expected to make a new offer for Jean-Philippe Mateta, proposing a loan with an obligation to buy. Palace are also in talks with Angers over 19-year-old forward Sidiki Cherif.
