Burnley had taken the lead in first-half stoppage time through Zian Flemming, prompting chants of 'You're going down with the Burnley' from the away fans. But Gibbs-White's treble, his first in senior football, turned the game around. Igor Jesus added a fourth in the ninth minute of stoppage time.
Forest head coach Vítor Pereira praised Gibbs-White's character and tactical flexibility. 'He has the qualities of a leader,' Pereira said. 'When things are not happening, he wants the ball, wants the responsibility.' Gibbs-White has now scored 12 Premier League goals this season, the most of any English player.
The win moves Forest five points clear of the relegation zone, while Burnley edge closer to the drop. Before the match, Forest paid tribute to Elliot Anderson's mother, Helen, who recently passed away. Anderson played and received a minute's applause from the crowd.
