Gethin Jones, 47, recently completed a gruelling 24-hour 'Skate-a-thon' for Comic Relief, during which he fell and hit his head. The incident was not his first painful bump, as the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant had a promising rugby career before turning to television.
Jones played as a scrum-half for Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd, a Welsh-speaking side. He had trials with Sale Sharks and nearly turned professional, but quit rugby in 2004 to join Blue Peter. His last game was in 2011, when he played for a Rest of the World team against England and was named celebrity man of the match.
Jones met opera singer Katherine Jenkins while competing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2007. They became engaged four years later but split at the end of 2011. Jenkins later said the break-up left her "in pieces", while Jones admitted he may have suffered from depression during that time. He has since been linked to First Dates waitress Cici Coleman.
