Kessie Puts Ivory Coast Ahead
Ivory Coast took the lead through Franck Kessie, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to slot home. The goal came against the run of play, as Germany had dominated possession but failed to convert chances. Ivory Coast's Amad Diallo, who scored a late winner against Ecuador in their first match, has been a threat on the counter.
Germany Frustrated by Disallowed Goals
Germany thought they had equalised twice, but both efforts were ruled out. Kai Havertz had a goal disallowed after a foul in the build-up, while another effort was chalked off for offside. Jamal Musiala also went down in the box claiming a penalty, but the referee waved play on, with replays showing the Bayern Munich star tripped over his own feet.
Second Half to Come
With seven minutes of added time in the first half, the game has been frantic. Germany will need to find a way past an organised Ivory Coast defence, while the Africans will look to catch the Germans on the break. Yan Diomande, linked with Liverpool, has been solid at the back for Ivory Coast.
