Bebe Rexha Defends Demi Lovato After Twitter Trolls Use Addiction Battle Against Her

Singer Bebe Rexha has come to the defence of Demi Lovato after the latter faced a barrage of online abuse following a joke about the Super Bowl and rapper 21 Savage. The controversy led Lovato to deactivate her Twitter account on Sunday.

The backlash began when Lovato tweeted, 'So far 21 Savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl,' referring to the rapper's arrest by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for allegedly overstaying his visa. Critics attacked Lovato, with many referencing her past struggles with addiction.

Rexha responded on Twitter, writing: 'To all the people who talked s*** to Demi you’re F***IN DISGUSTING. Attacking someone that is 6 months sober about her personal issues with drugs and mental health over a tweet is LOW.'

Lovato, who suffered a near-fatal overdose last year and is now six months sober, had earlier tweeted: 'If you're gonna come at me for making a joke, try coming at me with some original not involving drugs.' She later declared she was done with the site, writing: 'F*** Twitter. This is why I don't tweet anymore.'

21 Savage, whose real name is Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested in Atlanta after ICE claimed he is a British citizen who overstayed his US visa. His legal team is working on the case, calling it a misunderstanding.
