Gabriel Jesus has opened up on his move to Barcelona, saying he feels very good to be at the club after leaving Arsenal in the summer. The Brazilian joined the Spanish side in a deal worth £8.6 million and has made a bright start, scoring twice in four appearances in all competitions.
Adapting to life in Spain
In an interview with Sport, Jesus explained the work he put in to settle in. He said: “They gave us a plan for the days off and I trained a lot.
“I have felt very good. It was a month to adapt. I already knew some players I had played with, so it was good to get to know everyone. We have incredible players and a great coach. We are going in the right direction.”
On his Barcelona move
Jesus added: “I feel very good to be at a club like this. All the fans remind me that I used to miss some classes to watch Barça in the Champions League.
“To end up wearing the Barça shirt is something I thank God for. It is his doing. And here I am.”
His best friend at the club
Jesus also named his best friend at his new club, choosing former Manchester City team-mate Joao Cancelo. He said: “The funniest player in the team is [Joao] Cancelo because of the way he talks, the way he is. He is a good guy. I have a very good relationship with him.
“I get on well with all my teammates, but I have a long history with Cancelo. We talk a lot, so I will go with Cancelo.”
Jesus and Cancelo spent three years as team-mates at Manchester City, winning three Premier League titles and helping the club reach the Champions League final. Jesus left the Etihad in 2022 to join Arsenal, where he scored 32 goals in 123 appearances despite an injury-hit spell, and claimed another Premier League winners’ medal.
Jesus will be back in action for Barcelona this weekend as they face Getafe. Hansi Flick’s side currently sit top of La Liga, five points clear of nearest challengers Atletico Madrid after winning each of their opening seven games of the campaign.
