Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle faces a selection challenge for Saturday's Premier League match at Fulham, with two players ruled out of the squad that lost 1-0 to Everton. Midfielder Jacob Ramsey will serve a one-match ban after receiving a red card late in Monday night's game, while Joelinton will also miss out after picking up another injury.
The Brazilian had only recently returned to the side, making this latest setback a significant blow, with the club assessing how long he could be out of action.
Long-term absentees and potential returns
They are joined on the sidelines by longer-term absentees Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen. England full-back Livramento is close to a return, but United are erring on the side of caution, so a post-international break return is more likely. Young French keeper Jaouen still has several weeks of recovery before he will be ready to return following a hamstring injury collected with France Under-21s.
There could be better news for two players who have missed the last three weeks with injury, as Matias Fernandez-Pardo is expected to be involved at Fulham after recovering from illness. The Belgian forward has had limited game time so far, but after training this week, could get the nod at Craven Cottage.
Miley's fitness in question
Jaissle was a little more cautious over Lewis Miley's role, but the young Geordie is back in the mix following a glutes injury, although whether he plays a part at Fulham remains to be seen. He was not named in the England U21 squad, which suggests he may need more time before making a comeback.
Fulham's team news
By contrast, Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa only has one player ruled out, with former Newcastle target Tom Cairney sidelined with a knee problem which will keep him out of action until after the international break. The Cottagers welcome back Ryan Sessegnon to the squad after he completed a three-match ban for a red card picked up against Hull City.
