Fulham have opened negotiations with Real Madrid for a double transfer of Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios. Standard Sport understands that Fulham are in talks for Palacios and have revived their interest in Garcia after initially being told the striker was not for sale.
Real Madrid's stance on Garcia has softened since last week, when they informed Fulham they did not want to sell the 22-year-old. Having briefly moved on to other targets, Fulham are now back at the negotiating table for Garcia and are also working to secure a deal for Palacios.
Alvaro Arbeloa's Role
Alvaro Arbeloa, who served as Real Madrid's interim manager from January until the end of last season after Xabi Alonso's departure, is poised to raid his former club. The 43-year-old worked extensively with both players while managing Real Madrid Castilla, the club's youth team, and gave Garcia consistent first-team opportunities last season.
Garcia earned his first and only senior Spain cap under Arbeloa's tenure, and both he and Palacios are eager to play in the Premier League.
Player Backgrounds
Palacios made his senior debut for Real Madrid last season, featuring in seven games across all competitions, including two Champions League appearances.
Garcia broke into the first team during last summer's Club World Cup, scoring four goals in six appearances as Real Madrid reached the semi-finals. He continued that form, making 39 appearances in all competitions last season and recording eight goals and three assists.
